|What began as a Summer resort in the late 1880s is now a vitally important 44-bed hospital in our region. Nason Hospital first opened its doors as a private sanatorium in 1896 under the leadership of Dr. W. Albert Nason. The facility was later chartered as a charitable, non-profit hospital on April 1, 1900. Groundbreaking for the current facility was held June 1, 1959. Upon completion of the project, a Program of Dedication was held on January 21, 1961 with Dale W. Detwiler, then Chairman of the Board of Trustees, presiding over the event. Several expansions took place over the years. The last capital fund-raising campaign for a facility expansion project was held nearly forty years ago.
